In September 2013, the U.S. congress passed a law making it possible for chicken products processed in China to be imported and sold in the U.S. WITHOUT any labelling stating that it came from China. I was concerned because of China's unacceptable record in the area of food and consumer product safety. So I quit buying all but fresh chicken that I cook myself. That meant that I also quit buying any canned soup containing chicken. But I still wondered about it, so I emailed Campbell's Soup company about the subject. Today, I got the following reply:

The chicken used in our products in the US are raised and processed in the US.

We verify the safety of the ingredients and finished products using analytical tests, microbiological assays and investigations of packaging integrity. We require that our suppliers and vendors know where their ingredients come from, and have exacting control and monitoring programs in place.
